Monkinya for For ECEs & Teachers
Supporting Emotional Literacy Through Everyday Interactions
Emotional literacy is built in everyday interactions.
In play.
In art. In movement. In music.
In connection.
In shared humour.
In moments when big feelings show up.
Not as a separate subject.
Not as a weekly lesson.
But as part of the emotional climate we create.
Mindfulness & yoga in early childhood does not mean:
• long meditations
• silence
• stillness
• a set sequence of poses to follow
For young children, it looks like:
• breathing games
• movement
• emotion-based storytelling
• body awareness activities
• imaginative play
• art-based reflection
When delivered through play, these practices strengthen:
emotional regulation
body awareness
impulse control
co-regulation
self-soothing skills
Bring mindfulness into your classroom in a playful way
So what does this look like in practice?
How do we bring mindfulness into early childhood classrooms in a way that feels natural, playful, and developmentally appropriate?
How do we support emotional literacy without adding more pressure to already full days?
To answer all these questions, we designed a 3-hour professional development workshop specifically for ECEs and teachers; available both online and in-person.
A 3-Hour Mindfulness Workshop
This workshop is designed for ECEs, ECEAs, and teachers who want practical, developmentally appropriate tools to support emotional literacy through movement, play, and mindful awareness.
Rather than adding another curriculum block, this session focuses on simple practices that can be woven into existing classroom routines.
Grounded in yoga and mindfulness principles, the workshop introduces playful, embodied tools that support emotional awareness in ways young children naturally understand.
During this 3-hour session, educators will:
Experience playful breathing games that calm the nervous system
Learn simple movement sequences that support body awareness
Explore emotion-based storytelling invitations
Discover art prompts that encourage emotional expression
Practice introducing emotional vocabulary in natural, everyday moments
Adapt activities for different age groups (0-8 years)
The session is experiential.
Educators move, reflect, and practice. (And play, too! ;) )
When & Where:
In-Person (Greater Vancouver Area)
Workshops can be delivered directly at your centre anywhere in the Greater Vancouver Area.
If you prefer to host the session off-site, we also partner with a studio space in Burnaby.
Outside of Vancouver?
No problem.
The workshop can be delivered online for teams across Canada and internationally.

Mindulness Matters!
In a world filled with constant stimuli, children need the tools to find their own inner quiet. Method Eline Snel (also known as the "Sitting Still Like a Frog" method) is a world-renowned, evidence-based mindfulness program developed by Eline Snel for children aged 4–12.
The "Attention Muscle"
This method treats attention like a muscle that can be strengthened through practice. By learning to "sit still like a frog," children discover how to:
Calm a "mind full of thoughts" and improve their focus and concentration.
Navigate emotions (both pleasant and unpleasant) without being overwhelmed.
Build resilience by responding to stress with kindness rather than reacting automatically.
Develop self-confidence and a non-judgmental attitude toward themselves and others.
